warm winter wishes

the roads are empty today...of all save those, like me, who travelled to work and will be providing warmth and cheer for others to enjoy until their families come for them and leave us alone in the cottages awaiting their return this evening.

there is a warmth in being able to provide joy to others. though, sometimes, a quiet, (guilty) selfish voice whispers into the darkness, hoping for some for myself some day... it's odd that i've lived here in billings for so many years and have so few friends. most of them have moved away to other parts of the country. somehow, billings still manages to grow. yet, i work entirely too much and have forgotten, i think, how to make connections with people in my own community. or, perhaps, the new influx of out of staters simply stick to themselves more than the locals...and the locals are happy in their own circles already. most of the time i don't think on it much...though the holiday season tends to bring it to the fore.

may you all enjoy your family and friends and holidays!

  1. Thank you for sharing yourself, in providing to the needs of others. It is a good thing you do. making connections in this day and age can be tricky. Reaching out to others in need is one sure way though! Much warmth to you on this day and the days that follow.

  2. It is a wonderful thing you do Joe, and I am sure it brings much satisfaction.
Being as busy as you are with work and cloth, it is probably hard to find time to get out and about to make friends.
I hope when you finish work today you can settle comfortably at home, a drink in hand by the warm fire, your lovely dog by your side and feel content...that you have a wonderful Christmas Day!
Sending Joy and Cheer for Christmas and always.

  6. Even living in a bigger city sometimes it is so hard to find like minded folks. I've always worked on Christmas too so others with children could spend the days together, but you are right. There are times when I feel that I would love that warm friendly Christmas scene...maybe when I retire & I can make it for myself. Meanwhile, I have my dogs & husband to show me love.

  7. hang in there.

i always think liberal churches, mini art classes, and anything around a university are great ways to pick up new chatting buddies, but everyone is really set in there ways here and it's hard to make anything long term stick.

i've often thought it'd be awesome to have an eharmony friends only version where you're matched off compatibility and just find people or groups to hang out with.

merry holiday. seriously, hang in there. if it weren't for my immediate family i'd spend loads and loads of time alone.
