working through

an uneventful weekend. one of those periods where you feel swaddled in cotton wool. everything around you seems muffled. so you busy yourself with things close at hand. the pants, which have begun to call themselves working through, stirred and whispered. they were as close at hand as anything else. i began laying the foundation. a scrap of red to remind one of the wound upon which this new cloth will be built. stitched up a few rips that were silent.  brought what was left of the hem back into close proximity of the leg.  on my last pair, i underlayed a hem from a different pair of pants. i'm not sure yet what i want to do with this pair. though i do not wish to repeat the past.  next will come layered fragments in a boro style...to strengthen and connect.

  1. Hey Joe, I lóve that RED strip under that big rip ! (blood / fire seeping through hi,hi hi) It reminds me of the pants daughter showed me last
week with a similar tear ! (she's very capable of doing it herself, but likes
to put it in "mom's" basket ...)
    The hem needs a good strong worked-through strip I think ... (it's
probably the backside, where you step on it ;-) ...)

    1. i think this tear is almost as common as the walked on hem! ha! i've seen these tears repaired and embellished in so many ways...even making monster faces with teeth!

  2. Just a thought: I have used silk (from old neckties) in jeans repair. First basting the silk down as a way to stabilize the cloth, then making multiple passes with rows of backstitch to fill in the hole. While I put the silk inside, in hindsight I can see how it might work as an exterior patch as well.
