colors speak louder than words

"clouds come floating
into my life, no longer
to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky."
-rabindranath tagore

while posting on my instagram account about how i love digging through this oversized basket of hand dyed threads with which to spill a bit of colour on cloth on a rainy day, i was struck by my hoarding tendencies when it comes to art supplies. do i have a problem? should i seek help? divest myself of my treasures? comply with normality??

...nah! not when it allows me to manifest bunnies like this little guy soaking up a little rusty sunshine:

yeah, yeah...i know...he's purple! but he wanted to be purple. honestly!  i'd better get back to stitching him. having only a sketchy body is making him nervous...

  1. Love this ... he looks like the jack rabbits with over-sized ears that make a home in our Hill Country neck of the woods.

But what really grabbed me was the hand dyed threads ... cotton floss? If so, from where? I'd love to get my hands on a stash like that!!!

    1. i do havery a stash of hand dyed cotton floss, but this basket is filled with vintage hand dyed wildflower threads by caron. these particular threads go back many years to hen caron was in its infancy, but they still make amazingly luscious wildflower threads! you can get them (and many other marvelous threads in their line) at http://www.caron-net.com/threads.html. the wildflower threads are somewhere between a #8 and #12 pearl cotton.

    2. Thanks much for the link ... turns out I actually have some if their variegated silks in my stash. However, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the offerings, thinking "darn, I need to see these in person."

So, long story short, I looked up suppliers and found a store in nearby Austin that's been on my "check it out" list for way too long. Now I have the perfect reason to go sooner rather than later!

    3. oh! you simply MUST go fondle them and drink in their luscious beauty in person! i spent $600 on them when I first saw them...and that was definitely NOT the end of the matter! ha!

Your little bunny on rust cloth is wonderful...and purple is just the right color, I do believe.

    1. ha! if only that one basket of threads wasn't sister to a couple wood boxes of threads, an 8 drawer cabinet of threads, various wood boxes of beads, still more boxes of metal embellishments, a 9 drawer cabinet of beads, several boxes and buckets of rusty metal items, a room filled with cloth and salvaged cloth, quilts both new and vintage scattered everywhere...dare i go on? ha!

seriously, though, thank you for your kind words...and, yes, i do believe you are right...purple is indeed the right color for this little bunny!
