through the background of night

long days spent working with dementia patients. quietly dark nights filled with the silences made by an empty house. it is the needle chanting that keeps me going. the occasional snort of the saint asleep at my feet. the purr of the dreaming cat in my lap. the soft crackle of the logs burning in the hearth. the silent voices of cloth and thread whispering through the background of night.

  2. I could vision where your world by your words.
There is also something about the texture and colors or our work that made me want to reach in to touch the fabric.

  3. Your home sounds cozy and quiet. I have a crazy kitten that was so loud and rambunctious last night that she woke me up. Then two teenagers who decided to argue about who was going to use the computer at 2:30 in the morning! So much for peace.

Love your stitching and fabric choices. I am inspired : )

    1. it has to be to balance the emotional stress of working with dementia patients... though, it sounds like you have your own kind of "dementia patients" as well! ha!

  4. Beautiful post, Joe, I feel and hear your surroundings. I've got very much the same sounds here, save the St. sounds and the chanting is coming from the trees and mists wanting to be painted.

  6. i admire your self care ability.
clearly, it's necessary for all of us to one degree or another but we so often don't heed that call.
