hello and welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere! i am a mixed media artist currently focusing on re-purposing fabrics and fibers. i have been a blogger and podcaster for several years, though this particular blog is fairly new. started just last december to mark my new journey into this particular medium. i live with my slobbery saint bernard, sachi, her fat n' lazy cat, piper, and his scoundrel of a mutt, nicky, here in billings, montana. i lead a creative and contemplative life here and wouldn't change it for the world. being in a rather secluded area of the states, i enjoy meeting new people online and love exploring others' blogs. seeing what they are creating. sharing ideas. thoughts. views.
i found this, the fifth and final one world one heart 2011 blog event, while stumbling around in debra's blog and am pleased to have done so in the nick of time to join in on this wonderfully exciting event! one world one heart was started as a way for bloggers worldwide to get to know each other over the past several years. there are a lot of amazing bloggers/artists participating and i am eagerly looking forward to getting to know them better. many thanks to lisa for organizing this amazing event!
sky flower |
i am offering a door prize just for visiting my blog as part of the one world one heart event. it is a tall cloth i created last month as part of a workshop i've been involved in by jude hill. it is composed of re-purposed and re-cycled cottons and silks and measures approximately 8" X 16". the top half is woven strips of cotton and silk fabrics culled from my wardrobe and a few fragments from my quilting activities. the tree is a product of my experimenting with my mother's die cutter last christmas. the moon is from a delicate vintage cotton lawn hanky, as is the tiny blue "sky flower" in the snow bank. all have been kantha stitched and quilted to a backing cloth of indian cotton. there are tabs across the top so you can tie it to a nice twig or rod for hanging. it is entitled sky flower and has many stories to whisper quietly into your ear.
you do not have to be a part of this event to win. all you need to do is leave a comment on this post below and include your email address so i can contact you should you win. i will pick a winner from a hat (or large bowl, or barrel...depending upon what is required to hold all the names) at midnight on february 17th and will announce it here on my blog, as well as email the winner.
it has been a joy having you stop by and i hope you poke around and see what i've been up to. if you find yourself intrigued, i hope to see you again and again! i also look forward to exploring your blog and getting to know you! meanwhile, be sure to head on over to lisa's wonderful blog, as she is our magnificent host for this event! you can click on the links to the other bloggers participating with their own door prizes while there or by clicking here.

Hello Joe - it feels nice and just so right to be here in your blog. I love all of your work -using recycled materials, slow stitching, weaving. I used to spin, natural dye and weave many years ago and actually used to make things using a primitive weaving technique until I turned my craeativity towards using fabrics, new, old and from the east. I still use mohair from our goats which I love to dye and use also in my work.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned you love the Dulcimer - my exhusband still owns one which he had when we were together about 30 years ago - a lovely instrument!

Hello Joe, What an exquisite piece of your art!!! I do hope you leave yourself some clothes to wear - but if you need to strip them all up to produce this gorgeous work, well then...The time I visited Montana will reign as one of my most memorable vacations ever...it is a glorious part of our country...I am in Oregon another beautiful although less peaceful as growth occurs..

ReplyDeleteHello Joe, My blog is 846 on the OWOH list. Please stop by when you have a moment.
ReplyDeleteI read through some of your posts and enjoyed seeing the process and the enthusiasm you have when scoring some new fabrics to use in your works. I hope you always have that human contact with the people at your job you have described. Parts of modern life isolate us from one another doesn't it? Your post on the C.S.Lewis quote is part of that, protection from heartbreak and wringing oneself out. But, hey, this is supposed to be a happy event...
Thanks for a chance to have that generous prize. I love the blue, the tree, and the flower and the thought process behind it is a story as well. Hope yu stop in and enter my giveaway, too. So long.
I tried to leave a comment before..your fibers are beautiful! I think you have left me a comment...?
ReplyDeleteDeirdra Doan blog giveaway

Hi Joe,
ReplyDeleteFirst - thanks so much for the nice comment on my blog. Second - my gawd is this creation beautiful! So much in the little details, I bet it can tell a story. It is obvious it is created with love and care. I'd be beyond thrilled should I be so lucky. And I promise it would hang in a place of importance and be properly adored.
LOVE your part of the world, well maybe not in Winter though. I was in Montana this past summer (my fourth and not my last trip there) with a bunch of girlfriends and had a blast.

Bonjour, Joe, et merci beaucoup! I appreciate you stopping by my blog. Please add my name to the barrel:) I see the lace bobbins at the bottom of your blog -- I once watched a lady in Brugges, Belgium, make lace. I'm in awe of anyone with the patience and dexterity to do that. Looks like you have a lovely slice of Paradise carved out in Big Sky country. I was born across the state line in Wallace, Idaho. It's nice to have 'met' you!

hello Joe, love this work off you, and so surprising to see a man working at this art, great!! Best wishes and namaste from Janine
ReplyDeleteWell Joe I have spent the last hour reading your blog. I love how you weave poems into your life. Your weaving's are fantastic. Your animal friends I love and your kindness to others is wonderful. Your description of the weather in Montana and the sky brings back memories. I had a log home built there and brought here. I made many wonderful friends during that time. I would drive over and when I hit the Bitter root valley the sky would open for as far as one could see... Sorry didn't mean to go on and on.
ReplyDeleteI love your offering and would love to have one of your creations. Take care Spring is not to far away
Joe -
ReplyDeleteI think you're the first guy I've run into in my OWOH travels! Good for you! :D I used to have a St. Bernard named Callisto (Cally for short) who I loved to death - I miss her a bunch.
